Eagle
Online Services provides a wide range of assistance in nonfiction, ranging
from proofreading to editing, indexing, development, and the actual
writing of documents. These services apply to text in all possible
contexts. such as letters, essays, articles, chapters and books, and
website text.
Copy
editing - Available for
both nonfiction and fiction
Eagle
online Services provides three levels of copy editing:
Basic
Copy Editing: Proofreading, which involves correction
of mistakes in spelling, grammar, usage, and punctuation. Heavy
Copy Editing: Proofreading
plus revisions, which involves such things as rewriting sentences and
moving paragraphs, reviewing the logical flow or the piece, checking
accuracy of references and footnotes, and editing tables Developmental
Editing: Includes
both basic and heavy copyediting plus working with the writer
throughout the writing process to assure coherence, completeness, and
the accomplishment of the author’s goals and objectives in the work.
Indexing:
This
involves going through any document that requires indexing and compiling
keywords into an index which readers can use to locate specific parts of
the work and go to the relevant pages. NOTE: This service is
primarily for nonfiction and is rarely necessary, or desirable when it
comes to fiction.
Researching:
Eagle
Online Services will provide background research for both nonfiction and
fiction writing projects using online resources.
The basic cost for such research is available through our Pricing
Page, but if we have to use data bases that require a fee, that will be
added to the cost of the research.
Original
Composition:
This
involves actually composing the document sought by the client.
It might include writing such things as news releases, radio
announcements, magazine articles, an instruction book or technical manual,
and composing material for a newsletter or other publication.
Writing
Instruction:
Eagle
Online Services has a collection of articles regarding various approaches
to writing both fiction and nonfiction, which are available online for
modest fees. Additionally we offer personal tutoring, critiquing and
instruction.
Method
of work:
We
rely heavily on internet communication supplemented by telephone
consultation. All writing can be shared by means of e-mail.
However, hard copy can also be provided by means of fax, or regular mail.
Verbal contact on the telephone is used to negotiate fees, to clarify
client needs, and to assure client satisfaction.
Our
Approach to writing nonfiction:
When
it comes to nonfiction, we believe that the best writing as that which is
simple and direct and easily comprehended by the widest range of readers.
Toward this end, we advocate writing that:

Uses
easy to understand words and avoids jargon, or technical language,
except when necessary (such as, in writing a technical manual, or a
text book) .

Has
an easy-to-recognize logic, or structure that allows readers to read
both top-down (that is, skim text to get overall view and read in
detail when desirable, or necessary) and front-to-back (that is, from
the beginning to the end).
Practice

Finally,
we believe in practicing what we preach, and use this approach on this,
our own website.
